El Cielo Biosphere Reserve

    El Cielo is a wildlife refuge of 144,530 hectares where you will find an impressive concentration of different ecosystems, from tropical bush to pine forests.

    The widest and most important reserve in the North-east Mexico, El Cielo is well known for the diversity of its flora and fauna (743 different species of plants, 38 of which endangered), and for sheltering over 40% of the registered species of birds in Mexico (255 resident and 174 migratory), 92 species of mammals, 25 of amphibian and 60 of reptiles. It is one of the few places where you can still find the Black Bear (ursus americanus) and meet pumas and jaguars.

    El Cielo is an excellent place to camp, enjoy nature walks through beautiful valleys and by stunning waterfalls, bird watching, and practise some adventure sports like rappel, caving, and rock climbing.

    Climate: The average temperature in the coldest month is between 11 and 18 degrees Celsius

    Altitude: from 200 to 2300 meters above sea level.

    Accommodation will be in big tents for 2-3 people with queen-size inflatable mattress. There will be a big dining-tent with fully equipped kitchen, table and chairs.

    There is the possibility of arranging accommodation in cabins at extra charge

    Minimum participants: 6 people

    What to bring: a warm sweater for the night, sleeping bag, trainers or trekking shoes, biological toiletries, insect repellent and sun screen.
