(Check the Self-Exploring tour if you prefer renting a van and drive yourself)

Day 1: Arrive Creel via train or bus from Chihuahua or Los Mochis. Transfer to and accommodation in local hotel. Orientation gathering with information package complete with maps, scheduled stops and information on places to visit, and further options. Free cocktail or beverage.

Day 2: Pickup at your hotel. Visit of Cusarare Falls, Cusarare Mission and Loyola Museum along the way to Batopilas. Stop en route to view the Urique river up close from the bottom of the Copper Canyon at the Humira Bridge. Stop for a nice picnic, included in this package, at an incredible overlook in Batopilas canyon. Your guide will prepare this picnic for you while you take a short walk to stretch and take in the views.
Slowly descend from over 7,000 feet to just 400 meters above sea level once in Batopilas. Stop to see the incredible mountain of mine 'tailings' that reaches down the canyon into the Batopilas river in the old mining town of La Bufa in the Batopilas canyon. Finally arrive at your hotel in Batopilas. It is an old refurbished Hacienda from the silver mining days, once owned by a very prosperous miner and his family and used as their family home. This hotel is completely filled with antiques and stretches 2 city blocks long, reminding one of a long lost lifestyle in the mountains of Mexico. Lunch included. Total driving time to Batopilas is about 5 hours, not including stopping time.

Day 3: Visit Hacienda San Miguel, Grant Shepherd, The Silver Magnate’s old place, now in ruins. This old hacienda still has parts of the former buildings standing today. Do a short hike to the old Aqua duct built by Grant Shepherd to provide the town with lights, making Batopilas the 2nd city in all of Mexico to have electricity. Then drive down to visit The Lost Cathedral of Satevo just 8km outside of Batopilas. This Cathedral is a wonder as it was made from Flemish bricks, very unusual for the place and time. Your guide will organize your picnic here while you visit the church. Then wander the streets of Batopilas admiring the old architecture or sit by the river with a bottle of wine and relax. Sleep at the same hotel again. Picnic lunch included.

Day 4: Return to Creel, admiring the complete change in flora and fauna along the way. There are over 15 different species of pine trees and 25 different species of Oak to see, not to mention the utter change in cacti from the bottom of the canyon up to Creel. Your guide will take you to visit the Valleys of the Mushrooms, Frogs and Monks upon your return, just outside of Creel, time permitting. These valleys are filled with the energy and vitality of the Raramuri Indians who live nearby. You will see rolling hills, goats, sheep and cows and the Raramuri Indians strolling about tending their fields or flocks, in addition to the unique rock formations which give the individual valleys their names. Sleep at local hotel.

Day 5: Rent bicycles for a ride through the Valleys of the mushrooms, monks and frogs (in case you did not have enough time on Day 4). This area is only 8 km from Creel, therefore an easy ride. If you prefer a horseback riding excursion, this can be organized for you upon your arrival to be taken this morning early or you can simply enjoy the time you have by shopping and walking through Creel. Leave today by train or bus to Los Mochis or Chihuahua.

All excursions for the last morning before departure are to be arranged individually to better accommodate your needs, and will therefore be an extra but very reasonable charge depending upon your requests. All pricing and options will be outlined on the first night at the orientation meeting.

Meals are not included in this package, except the picnic lunches. It is possible booking hotels in Chihuahua or Los Mochis for starting or ending points. You will be offered travel advice on the spot on the best ways to get to Creel from wherever you are and the best ways to maximize your time in the canyons. This package can be extended further to include El Fuerte, Cerocauhui and or nights in Divisadero which are all along the train line.
