Enjoy the white beaches, rounded hills, and the amazing landscape of Baja, where the sea meets the desert and the skies offer breathtaking sunsets... maybe while sipping some champagne
CLIFF WALKS: PUNTA LOBOS TO SAN PEDRO
This is a spectacular cliff walk that starts at Punta Lobos, the sweeping Pacific beach where the local fishermen of Todos Santos launch their boats each morning and bring in the daily catch each afternoon.
A quick walk up the hill will take you to breath-taking views of a different kind of coastline, with dramatic rocky outcroppings and crashing surf.
You are likely to spot whales from this high vantage point during several months of the year.
Throughout the walk you will enjoy the stunning combination of desert landscape running to the sea. You will pass an active sea lion colony, as well as the ruins of the shipping port Los Algodones. Your guide will offer in-depth commentary on the huge variety of the local flora and fauna, as well as the anthropological history of the area.
After two to three hours of walking you will reach the idyllic beach of San Pedro where a picnic lunch will be waiting for you.
San Pedro features a beautiful marsh filled with bird life and a protective cove ringed by towering palms.
You can eat, relax, sunbathe, swim, read - just enjoy the bliss of being in Baja!
LA POZA HILL AND BEACH WALK
This is an absolutely lovely, 90-minute walk that shows the best of what Baja has to offer. You will start off in the rolling hills of the desert landscape, taking in amazing views of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains to the east, the distinct formation of Punta Lobos to the south, and the dramatic sweep of the beach meeting the ocean to the west. In addition to the wide range of cactus and desert plants, you can see jackrabbits, chipmunks, roadrunners, quails, owls, hawks, hummingbirds, orioles, gnatcatchers, flycatchers and doves on this walk – and virtually no humans! You will then wind down to the beautiful, pristine beach, which is virtually empty on most days. In January, February and March there are often whales swimming, breaching and spy-hopping just a few yards off the shore. On the final leg of the walk you will skirt along the freshwater lagoon which features a fantastic array of bird life including pelicans, herons, egrets, gulls, frigatebirds, ibis, ducks, cormorants, sandpipers, stilts and many, many more.
CHAMPAGNE, STARS AND CACTUS (evening trip)
The evening starts with champagne at Todos Santos beautiful Posada La Poza, the town's only hotel and restaurant right on the beach.
The hotel-owner will show you La Poza's spectacular cactus garden and grounds, a wonderful microcosm of the diverse plant life to be found in Baja.
You will then head up the hill to a wonderful perch from which you will watch a dazzling sunset over the lagoon and the ocean beyond. Sunset is one of the most active times in the marsh for its bird inhabitants, so you will see a tremendous amount of aviary activity. Your naturalist guide will point out species unique to the area and provide interesting details on their lives and habits.
Once darkness falls a local astronomer will illustrate the night sky, outlining the constellations and bringing their epic stories to life. He will have a high-powered telescope on hand so that you can get a close view of the stars and planets. He will make sure that you leave knowing how to find them again when you are on your own. You will then return to Posada La Poza for a delicious dinner at the critically acclaimed restaurant, El Gusto!*
*Menu: El Gusto! salad, Catch of the day (pasta as an alternative), dessert, coffee.
