'The limits of my language mean the limits of my world'
- Ludwig Wittgenstein
Learning the language of the country you are travelling to is
the first step to a deep understanding of its culture and traditions,
and makes your trip more fruitful and exciting.
Language schools are numerous all over Mexico, especially in University
cities which offer a lively cultural scene, all kind of events
and festivals, and a vibrant atmosphere.
Most Spanish language schools have a vast array of learning programs
which can last from just a weekend to several weeks or months.
If you are planning to spend a few days in a Mexican city and
you can not speak Spanish, we suggest you to consider taking a
few lessons or sign up for short ‘Spanish for travellers
program’, which is usually focused on survival skills.
For those interested in a full immersion experience, we strongly
recommend to enrol in a language program which involves a home-stay
with a Mexican family.
Living with Mexican families offer language students a great opportunity
to converse in Spanish daily and experience Mexican culture first
hand.
You can find some tips about
Homestays programs on our blog.
The schools we have selected offer also volunteering programs,
as we believe immersion into a new culture is not comprehensive
without a social context.
Some of them finance local NGOs and organisations donating part
of the registration fee, some others have founded or support local
projects such as community clinics, orphanages, scholarship funds
for young people, or other programs of education and environmental
conservation.
You will have the possibility of learning more about this projects
and helping sustain them on the spot (some volunteering programs
may ask you to commit for a minimum period of time).

would like to visit, and the specific local cultures o projects you might be interested in.
