Casa Carolina   •   Yucatan Peninsula

Casa Carolina is nestled on the Yucatan's Caribbean coast in the village of Xcalak, and caters to those discriminating travelers who desire something different.

With only four guestrooms, Casa Carolina offers the privacy, intimacy, and individual attention usually found in only the most exclusive locations, but in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Bob and Caroline, your hosts, have been traveling throughout the Yucatan since the 1980’s. Casa Carolina is the culmination of many years of planning and attention to detail. The best of what the Yucatan offers has been brought to Casa Carolina, in both structure and décor.

The four guestrooms at Casa Carolina all have balconies facing the Caribbean. Three of the rooms have queen-size beds. One room has a full-size bed and a twin bed. The bathrooms and all floors are fully tiled with Mexican ceramic tile. A complimentary continental breakfast and daily housekeeping are provided.

The four rooms have kitchens stocked with basic cookware, glasses, dishes and utensils, and when you want to dine out, the closest restaurant is just a short stroll down the beach.

All rooms in this self-sufficient resort have solar-powered electricity, with a back-up generator. Electricity and hot water are available 24 hours a day. For those rare occasions when the breeze in Xcalak is not enough to cool you, each room has a ceiling fan.

Xcalak is a paradise for divers and snorkelers: the world’s second longest barrier reef will enable you to see many of the species the divers see: lobsters, rays, puffer fish, jewfish, parrotfish, and too many species of colorful tropical fish to list are just a sampling of what you might see on any given day.

Casa Carolina is a NAUI Dream Resort where all levels of diving education are available, from resort courses through Instructor Training. Bob Villier, a NAUI Instructor Trainer, has been diving since the 1960’s. Whether you’re interested in continuing your diving education or just recreational diving in these undisturbed, pristine blue waters, you’ll find Bob ready to tailor your diving experience to suit your level of skill and interest. Each dive is a personal experience.

Ocean kayaks are available for your use if staying on top of the water is more to your liking. Take a kayak out to the reef and you will be amazed at the fish and coral you’ll see from above the water.
Fly fishing for bonefish, tarpon, and permit; as well as reef fishing and trolling, can be arranged with local guides.

If you would rather stay out of the water, swing in a hammock and catch up on your reading. Watch the birds glide by and spot the hermit crabs.

A day trip to the ruins at Kohunlich can be managed easily. The Temple of the Masks is unlike anything else you’ve seen! Bob and Caroline have an extensive library of Mayan history. If they don’t know the answers to your questions, you’re welcome to continue your search in their books.

Xcalak isn’t the place where everyone you know has been on vacation. But it just might be the place you don’t ever want to leave.
