Las Guacamayas Ecotourist Centre was created with the idea of developing a conservation project to protect the red macaws, an endangered bird specie found in this area that has been hunted for centuries for the amazing colours of its feathers.
Other animals take refuge in this community-owned ecological reserve, such as tucans, spider monkeys, badgers and armadillos.
The centre is located in a natural pristine enviroment, the only sounds you will hear are the singing of the birds and the rumour of the river, and you will sleep in comfortable cabanas surrounded by beautiful jungle plants and flowers and tropical trees.
Las Guacamayas offers accommodation in spacious cabins, from sharing bungalows with a few beds to double and triple cabanas with 2 double beds, to even more spacious suites with river view.
All bungalows offer plenty of space, a veranda with a sitting area and a hammock, and ensuite bathrooms with 24 hours hot water.
The lodge has also a nice restaurant overlooking the river offering a sometimes limited menu but tasty food and attentive service.
Las Guacamayas is a paradise for nature lovers; you can walk along the numerous trails around the ecolodge trying to spot the spider monkeys or bird watching.
Trips to the Marques de Comillas Hacienda can also be organised. The hacienda was abandoned over fifty years ago and it is part of the local foklore.
Other activities you can practise while staying at the Guacamayas are hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, archery, and horseback riding.
