| The Urique Canyon is located north of the Tropic of Cancer; but because it includes low lands, between 500 and 700 meters (1,500 and 2,300 feet) above sea level, and
the surrounding mountains are very high, the bottom of the canyon has a tropical climate. In the winter mornings are cool, but at mid-day it is usually warm or even hot. In the summer it is as hot as in the tropics, and temperature can get very high. But while in the tropics it rains abundantly, in the canyon you will only have short afternoon showers between late June and September. How to reach Urique: Get off the CHEPE train at Bahuichivo station and take the bus to Urique. The ticket is about USD 12 per person. Van pick-ups at the train station can be arranged upon request at the price of USD 150 per vehicle (max 5 people per van). |
