CRIP - Sea Turtle Research Station, Bahia de Los Angeles, Baja California


Antonio and Bety Resendiz are marine biologists and directors of Campo Archelon, a sort of "primitive camping" on the beach of Bahia LA.

Antonio is one of the main proponents behind the town’s mantra of low impact tourism, and devoted most of his life to saving Sea Turtles, running the Centro Regional de Investigacion Pesquera (CRIP) Sea Turtle Research Station.

He built himself the few Palapas (beach huts) which he rents out to tourists who are interested in conserve and help out nature, and are aware of endangered animals and try to protect them.

The Research Station cooperates with the Sea Turtle Association of Japan in counting of nestling turtles, turtle tagging surveys, investigations of beached dead turtles, and other activities.

Antonio and Bety's aim is to protect the region's fisheries and stocks sea turtles, as well as of marine mammals and sea birds. Information gathered by the Resendiz family is being used to help guide sea turtle conservation around the world.

A brief visit to the research centre is an extremely enriching and interesting experience. Antonio will be pleased to take you around and show you the different species of sea turtles.
